Carlos Kerr Jr. is a Belizean-American performing artist, choreographer, and creative director from Brooklyn, New York, based in Basel, Switzerland. His interdisciplinary practice moves across performance, choreography, film, photography, sound, and movement education, rooted in a sustained investigation of the body in motion.

His international performance career includes work with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the Metropolitan Opera Ballet, RUBBERBAND Dance Group, Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, Theater Ulm, Tanz Luzerner Theater, Snorkel Rabbit, and Ballett Basel. His repertoire includes works by William Forsythe, Crystal Pite, Hofesh Shechter, Marcos Morau, Johan Inger, Bobbi Jene Smith, Bryan Arias, Ella Rothschild, and Marco Goecke, among others.

Carlos’s choreographic work has been presented internationally. Remotely Equal was a finalist at the Concours Chorégraphique of Malandain Ballet Biarritz; Never Odd or Even was presented alongside Patrick Delcroix at Tanz Luzerner Theater; and he was selected as an Emerging Choreographer for Springboard Danse Montréal. His work has also appeared at platforms including Tanzwerk 101 Zürich, Dance Gallery Festival, Das Tanzfest Schweiz, Theater Casino Zug, Theater Chur, and Dance Basel.

He trained at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts before earning his BFA in Dance, cum laude, from the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program at Lincoln Center. Alongside his artistic career, Carlos continues postgraduate study in Dance Science at the University of Bern, connecting research in health, performance, psychology, education, and movement science with his professional practice.

A certified GYROKINESIS® Trainer, Carlos approaches movement through both artistic and somatic perspectives. His work as a movement educator and coach extends this knowledge beyond the stage, exploring how physical intelligence, creativity, and sustainable performance can inform one another.

Through Kerr Motion Collective, Carlos brings together the disciplines that have shaped his practice: film, photography, and movement. Rather than treating them as separate mediums, his work is guided by a shared understanding of the moving body — what shapes a choreography also shapes how he frames an image, directs movement, coaches a performer, or constructs an edit.

Carlos has been a member of Ballett Basel since the 2023/24 season and continues to perform with the company in Basel.
